In February the Prevent Coordinator hosted the Home Office Permanent Secretary, Sir Philip Rutnam, during his visit to Leicester. The purpose of the VIP visit was to explore local Prevent delivery, particularly in education. The day began with a visit to Madani School for a roundtable discussion on Prevent, but the highlight was undoubtedly a lesson with students where they discussed their favourite books and inspirational women in anticipation of World Book Day and International Women’s Day.

At the St. Philip’s Centre practitioners were invited to a working lunch where local delivery was discussed in depth, with a strong focus on the effective local links between Prevent at St. Philips and the Counter Extremism Strategy based at City Hall- two distinct but complimentary strands of work. The Permament Secretary found the day useful and interesting. He was particularly impressed with the relationships forged within Leicester and the individuals who contribute to the success of Prevent.
