Training and events (full text)
As part of Leicestershire’s commitment to tackle the issues that can fuel extremism there will be events, forums and seminars throughout the year that will give communities an opportunity to discuss sensitive but important issues. For example, workshops to discuss the English Defence League, seminars on US and UK Foreign Policy, media portrayal of faith communities. Details of these events will be posted below and will be published on the Prevent Coordinator’s Twitter feed. The Prevent Strategy has developed a series of training courses aimed at raising the awareness of the key issues that arise in relation to all forms of extremism, including recognising the signs that can indicate a vulnerability to extreme ideologies as well an opportunity to understand the drivers of extremism – particularly in young people – and the skills to challenge the hatred they promote. Many of these courses are aimed at people working in safeguarding roles, both in the public and voluntary sector, but there are also resources available for community groups, faith organisations, students, learners etc. Some of the courses have been created by the Home office, but many have been developed by community groups and individuals who recognise the ongoing threat from extremism and are passionate in their desire to build resilience in their communities.
