Strong Cities Conference in Birmingham

In October, Prevent Coordinator Sean Arbuthnot accompanied a delegation from St. Philips, Leicester City Council and local police to a Building Strong Cities Conference, hosted by Birmingham City Council.

The event was designed to facilitate national and international knowledge-sharing on building strong cities with a focus on community cohesion, preventing violent crime and countering radicalisation. Included on the agenda was a keynote presentation from Tom Hurd, Director General of the Office for Security and Counter Terrorism, who praised the work of Prevent practitioners all over the country.

During the event the Leicester delegation presented a joint workshop on the unique model of Prevent delivery that we have developed, highlighting the benefits of a voluntary and community partnership approach. The workshop generated much positive feedback from other regions and practitioners were keen to learn from our experiences. Hopefully this is just the beginning of our engagement with the Strong Cities Network.
